[edit] Entry criteria

When completed, the IDIH project will include articles for over 1,000 intellectual historians from all countries and disciplines. Over the past years, more than 800 names have been selected for inclusion in the IDIH database. They have been chosen according to three major criteria: Historians who qualify for the IDIH project:

  • must have published two major works in intellectual history
  • (1) not earlier than 1900 and not later than 1970. These works must be
  • (2) broad in scope, not focused on a single intellectual figure, and in a broad sense narrative.
  • (3) Writers chosen for inclusion must have been influential on subsequent work.

These criteria are not absolutely exclusive and will be subject to discussion within the academic community at large (see conferences).

[edit] Head Entries

For all names of intellectual historians in the IDIH database, head entries have been prepared, providing:

  • general information about the author, consisting of:
  • bibliographical information about the author's main works in intellectual history

[edit] Complete Articles

In addition to the paragraphs on general biographical information and on main works, a complete article contains paragraphs with the following headings (see also sample articles):

  • characterization
  • method
  • impact
